Dec. Meeting President's Meeting

President’s Message

It was a great attendance for our Christmas party this year, not to mention the delicious food. Thank you to those donating baskets and other items for the ticket drop. Congratulations to all the win-ner’s. Have you ever noticed there always seems to be one table that wins it all, go figure? My husband Ralph was impressed with all the beautiful show and tell items. We sometimes take for granted what we do, while other are very impressed with the quality of our work. We are a talented group of quilters and sewers.

Next year’s speakers and workshops are going to be excellent. Spe-cial thank you to Charlotte Rogers and Elaine Berry for making this possible. I am looking forward to Cindy Seitz-Krug Christmas stock-ing machine quilting class on February 9th.

You don’t want to miss next month’s meeting. Our new opportunity quilt for 2013 will be shown and our tickets should be ready soon after.

Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday’s and travel safe.

President"s Message Nov. Meeting

For those of you not able to attend last month’s meeting, Charlotte Rogers and Kristen Eilers had a wonderful program called "Purses on Parade". The stars were anyone with a purse or purses they made and the pattern it was made from. The program ended with a game of what do you have in your purse. It is amazing what we women carry in our purses.

The final tally for our boutique was over $5400.00. Sheila and I want to say thank you and we are so proud of all who made items and helped setup and worked on that day. It went very smooth for the first attempt. There were lots of positive comments and the best compliment I heard was there are not any boutiques with the quality of workmanship and beautiful fabrics like ours. We have many people looking forward to next year.

Our next meeting will be our Christmas party at Kings County Bowl. Last year was a nice event and this year will be more of the same. Bring your spouse or a friend and enjoy the evening and don’t forget to wear your favorite ugly Christ-mas sweater, you might win the prize for the best sweater.

Have a great Thanksgiving and be save where ever you go.

Happy sewing,

Mary Jane

President's Message

I love October, the mornings are cooler, coffee tastes better and my favorite eating holiday Thanksgiving is around the corner.  As I write this message today, our boutique is days away and getting very exciting.  On behalf of Sheila Ockey and me, we can’t thank you enough for making so many beautiful items.  When we throughout the challenge to make 400 items, it seemed an impossible task.  You have outdone yourselves with close to 500 items turned in for our first attempt.   I come from a retail background and this as good as it gets.

You don’t want to miss our next meeting on November 1st for the drawing of the opportunity quilt.  Special thanks to Charlotte Rogers and Kristin Eilers for taking on the making of our quilt and Janet Rogers for coordinating ticket sales.

“Each One Reach One”, let’s build our membership and not keep our guild Kings County best kept secret.

Happy sewing,

Mary Jane

Monthly Update - September

Presidents Message:

It is hard to believe fall is upon us and our boutique is around the corner. I woke up recently in the middle of the night and need-ed another blanket to keep warm. The next day I told my hubby that I had to have something to eat made of pumpkin. I have been craving cookies, cakes, pies and if I don’t pace myself I will be burned out by Thanksgiving.

All items completed have been turned in and I, because Sheila our chairman is away, consented to keep everything at my house, so my guest bedroom is full to the top. You have done an outstanding job turning in so many beautiful things and I know that some of you have some last minute items you are still working to get done. If you could turn your items in by September 30th so it gives us time to tag and price.

Barbara Sindlinger has order 500 more mailers for us to get mailed out by the end of this month. If you need any more, I will have those available for you the 24th. I am hoping that will be enough.

Thanks for all you efforts for this new adventure. It will be fun.

Happy Sewing,

T.E.A.M & "Each One Reach One"

Mary Jane

Monthly Updates - August

President's Message:

First of all, I want to tell all of you how surprised I was to receive your generous gift at the August meeting for serving as president last year.  I want to thank all of you and I am looking forward to spending it very soon, where I will spend it I am not sure, maybe at a fabric shop.

I want to thank all of you that participated in the different committee’s last year.  During the meeting I had some fun at your expense, but I know that you are the very, very, very important people and nothing can get done without your efforts to make this guild fun each month.   To all that accepted positions for 2012-2013 I am looking forward to working with you.  We still have a few opening and I am asking for your help to fill these spots and complete everything for the year.

The executive board this year is a great group of women making my job as president much easier.  Thank you for serving.
Until next month, “Each One Reach One” and bring a new person.
Mary Jane

Boutique Update

Postcards and flyers for the boutique will be available at the next meeting.  Please starting thinking of friends and family you'd like to send a post card to.  And if you know someone who owns a local business and would be willing to post a flyer, pick one of them up as well.

At the last Board Meeting a few items regarding the boutique were discussed.  First and foremost, a location has been picked as you can tell from the postcard.  We will be having the boutique at the Irwin Street Inn.

The 2nd item discussed was that we will not be able to have a bake sale portion due to the County’s health codes which make it very unfriendly for small groups trying to raise money.
Barbara Sawyer will be in charge of the decorating and is currently bringing home items that are brought to the guild for the boutique.

All items will be tagged with the maker’s number so we can return any items to the maker if it doesn’t sell.

There are 4 sub committees:
Advertising:   Barbara Sindlinger & Mary Jane Loya
Sewing Projects:   Noel Busby
Quilting Projects:   Sharon Koelewyn
Decorating:   Barbara Sawyer

We are still looking for someone to oversee Quilt Consignment.  This is an area where you can sell your quilts with giving the guild a percentage of the sale.

Please start spreading the word about the boutique and contact Sheila Ockey if you have any questions.

All Updated Now! Even show and tell

but I'm missing pictures of the mystery quilts.  If anyone has some good photos - please sent to me.  Thanks.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE AND SLATE OF COMMITTEES FOR 2012/2013 FISCAL YEAR

Last month I was on vacation and missed the last meeting.  The exciting report I got back was the enthusiasm you all have for the beautiful items you showed for the boutique.   I really hated missing the results from the mystery quilt and seeing what great combinations of color you came up with.
While on vacation to Oregon and Vancouver, Canada, I did not miss a chance to go shopping at as many fabric stores as I could find.  Quilters are great people no matter where you go.   That is why I love all of you and your enthusiasm for this fine art.
I look forward to being your president for another year and all that is planned.  Thank you to all of you who are taking on new positions and filling those spots so we all can enjoy another year.
Happy quilting, Mary Jane Loya

Yikes

I updated the show and tell pages a week or so ago and never got back to update all the rest of the pages.  Sorry.  Guild meeting tonight so all the information will change now anyway.

Tonight we reveal all the mystery quilts and the members get to vote on the challenge quilts.  Should be a fun evening.

Newsletter and Important Information

The May newsletter was emailed today - if you normally get your newsletter via email and haven't received it yet, please let Barbara Sindlinger know.

So excited that our meetings are going to start at 6:30 starting with the June meeting.  Which is also great since we will be having school age kids presenting a program for us next month.  These are future quilters ladies so let's give them a lot of support.  The guild needs to start considering having a Jr. Membership or even co-sponsor and Common Threads Quilt Guild for kids with some of our members mentoring these young children.  (or they could mentor us?)  (Each One, Teach One)

Don't forget that our guild will have the opportunity to sell Opportunity Quilt raffle tickets at the Kings Fair in July.  Janet is looking for people to sit at the AIR CONDITIONED booth to sell tickets.  Contact Janet Stivers to sign up.  If you can't make it, you can still sell tickets to friends and family.  Lot's of tickets left to sell.

Look at all the great workshops we're going to have in the next couple of months.  See Charlotte Meade to sign up for those bargain classes.

The pages for show and tell and committee updates will be updated sometime next week.

Have a great Mother's Day.

April Updates

The show and tell page for April has been updated.  I will update the committee and program guilds later this week.  If you need the info faster - please check your newsletter.

Oh what a night!

Local quilter from Visalia, Juanita Cairns, had her trunk show at guild tonight.  Wow - not only is she a great quilter, she's quite humorous.  Thanks Juanita for sharing your talents with us.  You have earned every one of your many sewing machines.  :)

Show and tell was amazing again with lots of creativity flowing through our members.  Pictures will be posted mid-month.  It was great to see so many items already being made for our boutique in October.  I best get busy.

Have a happy Easter everyone!

Block of the Month

If you're like me - you're just now working on the block of the month.  Just a helpful hint for those who don't like math.

The half square triangles need to be squared up to 4.5"' squares
The 2 rectangles when sewn together should be 4.5" squares
the Center background block should also be 4.5"square.

The sample block shows a white color for the background and a dark brown or dark matching color for the other half of the rectangles.

The total block should measure 12.5" unfinished or 12" finished.

Charity Quilt Workshops - Come Join the Fun

We are having COMFORT QUILT WORKSHOPS on the following dates: 3/27, 3/30 and 3/31 from ll-? at Mary Jane Loya's house.............it will be potluck..........come and enjoy the fun we have - you don't know what you are missing!

We have inherited more fabric from 2 ladies who have passed away and some of the fabric we have donated to other charities.............we've had a lot of fun going thru the 'stashes' that we have been given

                                                             AND

We will be getting more fabric from these ladies................can you believe it!

I want to thank Mary Jane for hosting these workshops at her home - she gives over and beyond................and also to Charlotte Meade who washed the 5 yr. old stash (her washer was going for 12 hrs.) and she folded the fabric into lg. quantities, lights, darks, etc.  What volunteers-I hope the guild knows how dedicated the workers at these workshops are!  We are so blessed!

AND you should see some of the quilt tops that have been donated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And would you believe that we purchased some more fabric yesterday...............HA!  But we actually did - we needed some backings, children's fabric and misc. other stuff!

I want this year to be our largest 'comfort quilts' made ever!  Come help us!

Thank everyone who has come to work at these workshops, made quilts, quilted quilts etc.  We could not have had the yr. we have had if it were not for YOU!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sheila

Please comment below if you are interested in attending any of these workshops or contact Mary Jane or Sheila.  Thanks.

Monthly Update

Please check the the show and tell and committee pages for updates.  Sorry it took so long.

By now you should have received your newsletter - either by snail mail or email.  If you are a member and you did not receive it, please contact me.

Don't forget there is another comfort quilt workshop weekend on March 22 and 23 starting at noon and goes to whenever they are done at Mary Jane's house.  Contact her or Sheila Ockey for details.  I hear they have way too much but they also get a lot done.

Our next meeting is scheduled for April 5th where local quilter Juanita Carnes will be having a trunk show.  Because this is around Easter, we will not be having a workshop in April.

Don't forget Best of the Valley Quilt show is in April too.

Updating show and tell

Just finding the time to add the photos for the February meeting show and tell.  Check out the pics on the tab above.  There are also photos of our guest speaker Sue Rasmussen.  Forgive the photographer.  She is not a professional and is only using a little point and shoot camera.

Next month we have Marie Strait as our guest speaker and workshop.  She has been to our guild (check out the scrapbooks to see) before but it was before my time.  I'm excited to be taking her scrap class as I have a lot of scraps and this is my year of scrap quilts.  See the speaker and workshop tab for more details.

Hope to see you all on March 1st!
